Bulgarian Collegium HOSANNA is undeniable phenomenon in contemporary culture, one of the most outstanding and remarkable performing ensembles in Bulgaria.
The Collegium consists of 24 participants of different ages.
There is also a children`s formation of 14 singers aged 6 to 12 years, students in the National School of Music in Sofia.
The mixed choir consists of 5 women and 5 men, professionally trained in an unique manner of sound production, called “bregmophony”, associated with the specifics and architectural features of the temple area.

Not accidentally, after one of the choir’s many concerts, the famous American conductor Prof. Anthony Antolini, head of the Rachmaninoff choir – USA, exclaims: "I have been seeking this sound all my life ..."
And the Superior of the Patriarchal Metochion of Nikolo-Perervinsky Monastery in Moscow and Rector of the Perervinsky Theological Seminary - Archpriest Vladimir Chuvikin says: “And for the mastery of your performance, I can say - professionalism. And not only professionalism - you have a depth in the performing of the chants, by not saying a word only, but also your hearts are involved and your souls sing, rejoice and triumph, praising God. I am confident, that Bulgaria is proud of you, you are a true national treasure.

The Collegium's repertoire comprises chants - samples of monodic and polyphonic orthodox singing tradition. Most of them were written specifically for these singers by Georgi Popov. The ensemble performs also popular folklore songs and works of classical music composers from different countries and historical periods.
The training of the choir is taking part in the Bishopric of Sofia. Since 2012 they work with children from the orphanage “Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker” to the monastery “Saint Trinity” in the village of Novi Han. Since 2014 they sing there during divine services.
In 2013-14 the Collegium gave a cycle of concerts "Bulgarian sacred music – bregmophony and antiquity" in one of the oldest Christian churches, built during the V-VI century - rotunda "St. Great Martyr George" in Sofia.

The singers have presented their performing art in Serbia /2006, 2010/ Macedonia /2007/, France /2008/, Russia /2008, 2009, 2010, 2012/, Austria /2010/, Croatia /2012, 2013/, Italy /2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016/ and others.
Over the years, the choir has participated in successful joint projects with groups from Serbia, Russia, USA and Japan.

The Collegium's conductor Elitza Hristova was born on Sept 9, 1969 in Bucharest, Romania.

She has PhD of Theology (Eastern Church singing) /2012/, Master of Theology /2008/ and Music /1991/.
After 1991, as an artist - pianist, choirmaster and conductor, she was busily engaged in concerts, recordings and teaching in Bulgaria, Finland, Germany, Greece, Romania, Spain, France, Bahrain, Serbia, Austria, Macedonia, Italy, Russia and other countries.
Since 2000, she has been the co-founder and leading conductor of the Sofia-based Slavyanska Besseda Choral Society until its closure in 2010.
Since 2008, she has been working as a professor in church music and choral singing at the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
Since 2013 she has been a member of the jury of International Festival of Sacred Music "Osanna", Italy




 

The Composer Georgi Popov was born on March 19th, 1957, in the town of Sliven, Bulgaria.
After completing his higher education in music in 1979, he started teaching theoretical musical disciplines at the Philip Kutev National School of Folk Arts in the town of Kotel and at New Bulgarian University in Sofia.
From 1984 to 2000, he worked as a freelance composer in the theater and cinema. The music he wrote for Theatrical and Film productions has earned him prestigious national and international awards. Since 1994, he has been actively involved to the creation of the Bulgarian sacred music. His chants can be heard in the rendition of many Bulgarian and foreign choirs across the world. 
Since 2000, he has been the co-founder and one of the leaders of Slavyanska Besseda Choral Society which was closed in 2010.
From 2004 to 2012 he was a member of the Selection Committee of International Choral Festival "Theotokos – It Is Truly Meet "- Pomorie.
Since 2012 he has been a member of the international jury of choral competitions Chorus-Inside International in Italy.
